What I Wore Wednesday: Maternity Nightwear

So given I have a c-section scheduled in less than four weeks I figured I should try and get a move on getting a hospital bag packed. When I was pregnant with Blondie Boy I bought new PJs for the hospital as well as a night gown for labour, neither of which got used. The nightgown was fleece and I had it on all of 2 seconds before I was too hot and the PJs irritated my c-section incision so they were a no go, too.

So this time I still want special new pyjamas but I know to get something that's breathable and won't bug my incision (not to mention the fact post surgery I'll have a catheter so pants aren't really an option anyway). I can't really get around very well because of my SPD so I've been doing most of my shopping and searching online (mostly just places that allow me to return in store) and to be honest the nightwear options out there SUCK.

First I looked at maternity specific nightwear and umm WTF. I'm of the opinion that no grown ass woman in her right mind would ever want to wear anything with Winnie the Pooh on it but apparently the maternity retailers of the UK would beg to differ. If the maternity options don't have a cartoon character on them they have spaghetti straps and as a busty gal that isn't going to be an attractive look.

So I decided to try regular sized PJs but in sizes larger than I normally wear. I struck gold and fell in love with was a white waffles night shirt from New Look:

First off waffles are amazing, fact. Secondly it reminds me of Leslie Knope and anything that reminds me of Leslie Knope is awesome. I ordered the biggest size they had (UK18) but while it is loose in the body it is REALLY short; there is no way I could wear it around a hospital ward without wondering if my cheeks were hanging out. So now I'm back to square one and considering the following options.

I feel like this is the slightly nicer version of stealing my Dad's XXL shirts to sleep in. It looks long on the model and I feel like I could wear it without a bra and not look awful.

I love Tie Dye and upon further inspection this probably isn't tie dye but it looks sort of similar to tie-dye so I like it. It also goes up to a UK size 20 so I should be able to get it large enough but I can't tell how thin the material is.

Nordstroms has some cute options but I'd have to get them shipped to my Mom's and then hope that they fit (and that baby stays put until she gets here). It's not the best option since I had issues with length in the first nightshirt I tried.

Where is your go-to place for comfy and cute (but not saccharine) PJs? What would you do?

What I Wore Wednesday: Liz Lange Maternity Wear

It's been a looooong afternoon. Long story short our doctor sent Blondie Boy to the children's hospital for blood tests unexpectedly today (all came back fine) so we are both exhausted. He was super brave and the staff at the hospital are great (BB got to watch a DVD, colour, build lego...) but it was still a long wait and I'm sore as all get out from sitting on a wooden chair.

So I'm kind of repeating myself slightly with this post; technically I've never posted this outfit on What I Wore Wednesday but I did post it on one of my Bump Watch posts. I don't know if there is tons of cross-over between those two audiences though so hopefully y'all don't mind the repeat if you have already seen it.

Black Maternity Dress- Liz Lange for Target
Black Leggings- New Look Maternity

My Mom sent me over this dress to wear for work from the US and I've worn it twice now when I've had parliamentary meetings. When she first sent it and I tried it on there was so much excess fabric in the bump area but not even slightly now! It is perfect for days when I have to be at Parliament for meetings and need to dress up but is still comfortable.

Normally I'd have a bright accessory to break up the all black but what aren't in frame are my crutches with the purple and silver tape and they are bright enough on their own!

What I Wore Wednesday: Meet Innocent Charmer

I'm getting ready for Blondie Boy's first day of primary school tomorrow (!!!!) so the lovely Kara, from Innocent Charms Chat is stepping in and guest posting today! Kara is a super sweet blogger who I had the pleasure of working in a previous job and she's an amazing mum to Grayson, Addison & Deacon and tirelessly campaigns and strives to make sure Grayson, who has special needs, gets the best for him. It's been amazing watching her fight for him and watching him come on leaps and bounds thanks to his amazing mother! She's also a fashion fanatic--without further ado here is Kara....

I love this Kimono, it is by far one of my favourite purchases this past year, it is simple to wear, covers the bingo wings and has neon hints. I love neon, I wish I could find more fashion items with neon touches.

It is simple to dress, I have worn it on a date night dressed up or like in this outfit today with a cami and jeans for a day out shopping.

I am a plus size girl and up until recently I found it hard finding exciting clothes to wear, but since becoming involved in the Plus Size Blogging community my outfits are becoming a lot more fun.

What I Wore Wednesday: Tiger Sleeves

I've gotten into a pattern of wearing the same thing, or a variation of the same thing, most weeks. It's cold, I'm lazy and leggings and a t-shirt dress with a scarf suits my needs.  I've got a pile of things from HM that I've never worn. I've bought them on sale with the best intentions and then they languish away never to see the light of What I Wore Wednesday. So today I dove into that exiled pile of loneliness head first and ended up with an outfit far from my norm.

Tiger Sweatshirt

Tiger Sweatshirt-HM
Jeggings-New Look
Slouchy Sweater Boots-Pineapple
Black Glasses-Vivienne Westwood

When I bought this sweatshirt it was totally because I'm a Cincinnati girl and huge Bengals fan and thought I could wear it to watch games. I sent pictures to some of my friends and cousins in Cincinnati who all were totally opposed to it but I kinda love it. Photo animal prints are super on trend right now in the UK but maybe just not so much in the US?

There is a photo of a tiger on each arm and it is super comfy. I think it's supposed to be 3/4 sleeves but on me it's just about full length. You can't tell but it is longer in the back so cover my butt which makes the jeggings slightly more acceptable.

Since I'm a shorty and curvy skinny jeans don't always really work on me but jeggings do. These ones have pockets so they aren't totally disgusting (I hope) and work really well when mid-calf boots.  Like I said it is cold so I wear boots almost every day and these ones were a total bargain at TK Maxx.

Are you loving animal photo prints right now or loathing them?

What I Wore Wednesday: Work Christmas Party

I've been working since I was 15 years old but in all those years (you decide how many) I've been to exactly 3 work Christmas parties.  I know it doesn't seem fair to me either; one in 2001 when I worked for night club/concert venue in DC (oh the stories I could tell...), one in 2008 when I worked for an alcohol education charity and my third last Friday for my current contract.

We went to Brown's on George Square in Glasgow where the regular Christmas meal suspects were present: turkey, crackers with crowns and games and lots of wine.  I really love the people I work with so it was a great night to just hang out and relax with them.  I wasn't sure what I was going to wear but then when my fellow Lassies mentioned buying new dresses I went into a panic.

I hit up pretty much every stores at Glasgow Fort on the Wednesday night before our night out: HM, New Look, River Island, Next, TopShop, Wallis, Oasis....I even ventured into Quiz. NOTHING. Thursday day I spy a super cute sequin skirt in Marie Claire from Primark so I go and buy it in two colours to coordinate with tops at home. Get home and my super cute skirt looks really frumpy on me. So I raided my closet and after only one possibly viable option decided to take a last ditch trip to my lover: TK Maxx.  I should have known just to go there from the start!

Velvet Hair Bow Headband- ASDA
Black and Red Keyhole Dress- TK Maxx
Black Ankle Boots-New Look

So I had a rotten time trying to get photos but the dress is black on top and deep red with a sort of damask pattern on the bottom. I've never work a keyhole dress before as I wasn't sure if it would suit me. The dress was great standing up but sitting down it was probably a bit more boob-a-rific than anticipated. Luckily the top part of the keyhole meant I didn't look too pornographic--at least I hope that is what it did!

I really wanted a big glittery Crown and Glory hair-bow ala the always fabulously accessorized Miss West End Girl but I couldn't find one in Glasgow to save my life. So I settled for this massive velvet bow headband from the little girl's section at ASDA-- keeping it classy as always.

I'm convinced I look like a demented Lady Gaga in a Christmas crown--what do you think? Does your work have a Christmas party?

What I Wore Wednesday: Kenneth Cole Reaction Purple Coat

At the risk of sounding like a broken record, it's cold in Glasgow. I almost feel bad saying that because I know there is snow back home in Ohio and I didn't even have to scrape my windshield this morning but comparatively it is cold. I can't get away with just a jacket and while most of my 2009 Zara coat has held up well (I lost a button do to pregnancy boobage) it isn't particularly warm enough for shivering at the bus stop.

So after much heckling from my co-workers to put on something warm I decided to get a new winter coat. I'd give you three guesses where I went to look for a new coat but really you'll only need one. Blondie Boy and I headed to TK Maxx who have tons of coats and jackets in store right now. I wasn't entirely sure what style I was going for and had tons to choose from so lucky me when my boy pulled out a coat for me that I loved! That kid has great fashion sense:)

Blonde Furry Hood

Purple Puffy Coat with Fur Hood-Kenneth Cole Reaction via TK Maxx
Old Navy Turquoise Boatneck Sweater with Button Detail on Shoulder
Old Navy Sweetheart Jeans
Black Studded Pumps- New Look

I love purple and the coat is SO warm. There are sweater cuffs inside the arms so your wrists don't get cold and it is super fluffy and feather-filled. The inside is super soft minky and then of course there is the fabulous detachable faux-fur hood. To top it off there are toggles at the waist so you can cinch it in so you aren't a giant puff ball!

It is absolutely the perfect winter coat for me and I'm glad Blondie Boy grabbed it and told me to try it on! Normally he'd get in trouble for grabbing stuff off the rails but not this time! To top it all off the coat was reduced/on sale, too!

Also do you see all those lights? My new office is right on the main square in Glasgow so we look out directly onto all the Christmas lights and attractions! It makes going to work and leaving work in the dark a little bit easier to deal with!

Have you gotten a new coat this winter or have you dug out an old favourite?

What I Wore Wednesday: Drag Super Star

So here's the thing. I love drag queens. LOVE drag queens. I actually wish I could be a drag queen (anyone out there want to be drag mama to a faux queen?) ala the movie Connie and Carla minus the whole running away from murders bit and a bit more fierce. That being said I've never been to a drag show in Glasgow; I'm not sure how I saw that Raja, the winner of RuPaul's Drag Race Season 3, was coming to Glasgow but oh honey the second I found out I KNEW I was going and somehow I luckily convinced Steph to go with me.

We decided to go ALL out and splashed out on the VIP tickets so we would also get to meet Raja and get our photo taken with her plus a champagne reception. I say splash out but seriously y'all it was less than a single concert ticket costs these days so it was actually a bargain!

I'd never been to the club the show was in before but friends told me it was an anything goes, OTT type place so in my mind that meant glitter and sequins needed to be on the agenda. I also took it as an excuse to break out all my make-up and hair styling tools that I don't normally have occasion to use.

Leopard Heels-Dune
Booty Up Bootcut Trousers-Hold Your Haunches
Studded Bag-Versace for HM

You know I had to break out the cat ears Liz got me again; I honestly need more events in my life where I can wear headpieces! I didn't realize until afterwards but I wore the same outfit I wore when I went out for Julie's 30th earlier this year!

I bought hair chalk last year in Ohio and this is the fist time I've gone out with it. I'm kinda in love with my candy-coloured my little pony hair. As much as I love skulls and spikes I also love pink and purple so it was such fun to have a trial with dip-dye hair. Now I have to decide if I could take the plunge to have it full time.

Raja's performance was just amazing and it was so great to see her and get the chance to briefly meet her. It was also just fun to get out and do something I've not done in a long time, too. Could I come home at 4am every weekend? Oh hell no but once in a while for a special event I think I can handle it.

What's your favourite OTT fashion trend?
